Tim Demirjian did not walk onto the Love Overboard yacht in Malta expecting to be crowned the winner of the Hulu dating series weeks later. He wasn’t even sure if he was going to find love at all.
During a set visit in Malta during filming last year, he told PEOPLE he hadn’t had a “legitimate girlfriend that I’m taking home to the family” for eight years and had “played the field for a little bit.”
By the end of the show’s run, he’d found his first serious connection in quite some time with Gia Aldisert.
The two never made things official on the boat, but they were crowned the show’s first-ever winners by host Gabby Windey and awarded a prize: a trip around the world. Life right now is “amazing,” Tim, 30, tells PEOPLE, though he plays coy about whether Gia is involved in that life.
“Obviously, a lot happened on that boat that was incredible and amazing, and a lot of stuff has happened post-show, post-boat, real life that’s been equally amazing,” he says when asked about his current relationship status with Gia, 23.
Tim says fans will have to “tune in and follow along with life after the boat and life in the real world” to find out whether he and his fellow winner have stayed together. But, he says, Gia “lives down the street from me so, yeah, we spend a lot of time together.”

While he won’t confirm or deny anything, Tim reveals that he and Gia have yet to cash in on their prize. After they were announced as winners, he says, “We got the yacht to ourselves for a few hours, and we did a bunch of content. But as far as the trip — that end montage of all the photos and stuff was really just a funny gag thing that we did with production. We were just going through Malta and eating a bunch of food and taking fun pictures.”
“We haven’t actually taken the trip yet, but we plan on taking the trip very soon,” he says. “From after filming until now, we had to keep a lot of things very much under wraps. [Now] we can plan the trip.”
They’ve got their eye on quite a few exciting destinations, including Japan and Croatia. “We want to go to Tokyo, eat all the great food. [We’ve] heard the nightlife is really fun in Tokyo. [She] and I both like to go out and socialize. We like the party scene a little bit, so figure we’d like to have a good time in Tokyo, have a good time in Split, [Croatia], and then go to Bora Bora and just chill out on the beach, relax.”
“It’s cool because obviously we’ve been looking forward to the launch of the show, the cast release and everything, that’s been amazing. But now we have another amazing thing to look forward to, too, which is great,” he says.
While the prize is a fun bonus, Tim makes it clear that finding Gia was the real win for him from the experience. “Obviously, me and Gia were super confident in our relationship and the potential to win, but at the same time we were like, ‘If we win, great, but we found each other. So if we get eliminated throughout this process — whenever — we’re fine, we found each other.'”
Hearing Windey, 35, announce their names was “euphoric,” though. “It’s hard to put into words and articulate, but it was a pretty surreal feeling,” he says.

As for the seven-year age gap between him and Gia, Tim says it “hasn’t really affected” things between them. “She’s coming up on 24 in May, and it hasn’t affected much,” he says. “She doesn’t act like a 24-year-old. She’s very mature for her age.”

Looking back, the social media star says he has “no regrets at all” about his journey on board the super yacht.
“I went for it. I put myself out there. Yeah, I put myself in a really uncomfortable position, but I was like, listen, this is what we’re here for and I feel strongly about this girl. And if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t work out, but at least I know I went 110% in on all this and put myself on the line — or on the plank, if you want to call it that.”
