Spotify has begun rolling out SongDNA, a new feature that allows Premium subscribers to trace connections between songs through shared producers, samples, covers, and collaborators.

The tool launched in beta on Tuesday, March 24, for Premium users globally on iOS and Android devices. Spotify said it will reach all Premium subscribers throughout April.

SongDNA appears in the Now Playing view. While a track plays, users scroll down to a SongDNA card that lists writers, producers, and other collaborators. It also shows samples and interpolations used in the song, as well as covers it has inspired

From there, users can click through to explore further links. This reveals how artists, eras, and genres connect. For example, Spotify linked Harry Styles to Wu-Tang Clan through a chain of shared collaborators: Styles to John Mayer, Mayer to Pino Palladino, Palladino to D’Angelo, D’Angelo to The Roots, and The Roots to Wu-Tang Clan.

The data comes from information provided by artists and their teams, along with community contributions. Artist and label teams can log into Spotify for Artists to review and manage details shown in their SongDNA profiles.

Spotify first previewed SongDNA alongside an “About the Song” feature in November 2025. At that time, the company said the tools would help fans explore influences behind tracks while giving sampled and covered artists more visibility.

In November 2025, Spotify acquired London-based WhoSampled, a database that tracks song samples and remixes. The company noted then that SongDNA would draw on WhoSampled’s data, although the beta announcement did not mention the acquisition.

Jacqueline Ankner, Spotify’s head of songwriter and publisher partnerships, said the feature makes a song’s creative lineage more transparent. “By bringing collaborators, samples, and covers together in one place, we’re making it easier for fans to discover new music and see how songs connect,” she said. It also gives songwriters, producers, and rightsholders recognition for their work.

SongDNA forms part of Spotify’s efforts to deepen engagement among Premium users. Earlier in March, the company introduced Taste Profile, an AI feature that lets users view and adjust the listening data used for personalised recommendations.

The rollout of SongDNA is limited to Premium subscribers, adding another incentive for free users to upgrade. Spotify has not said when the feature will move out of beta or expand to other platforms.
