Tulane Law students interested in entertainment law will soon have a new opportunity to explore the field, as the Tulane Entertainment and Art Law Society (TEALS) launches its first-ever Women in Entertainment Law Symposium on April 3. Designed to connect students with professionals across the industry, the symposium will bring together attorneys and leaders working in film, television, music, sports, fashion and media for a day of conversation and career insight.

Originally created as part of Women’s History Month programming, the symposium quickly evolved into something more expansive. “We wanted to create a space where students could not only learn about different career paths, but also hear directly from professionals about their experiences, challenges and strategies for success in a highly competitive and evolving field,” said Program Director and TEALS Vice-President Francesqa Kaggwa. “The symposium was inspired by a desire to both celebrate those contributions and provide meaningful access to industry insights, mentorship and networking opportunities.”

The event was planned in collaboration with a student team spanning class years, including first-year law students Jacquelyn McGaha and Yasmine Rabah and second-year law students Cheyenne Butler and Victoria Steckler, reflecting a broad base of student leadership behind the initiative.

While this year’s program will be held virtually, organizers have intentionally designed the panels to be interactive, allowing students to engage directly with speakers rather than passively listen. Discussions will focus on the real questions students have about breaking into the entertainment industry, with panelists sharing how they built their careers and navigated challenges along the way. The speaker lineup includes women serving as counsel and leaders at organizations such as Blavity Inc., Save The Music Foundation, OWN Network, OffScript Worldwide and Amazon Studios.

Following the virtual symposium, students will have the opportunity to continue the conversation in person at a networking brunch in the Marian Mayer Berkett Multipurpose Room. Open to all participants, the event will connect students with local entertainment attorneys, offering a space to build relationships and explore potential career opportunities.

Together, the symposium and networking event reflect TEALS’ commitment to expanding access to entertainment law and creating meaningful, career-building opportunities for Tulane Law students. You can learn more and register for the event here.
