The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion Tuesday to analyze the potential economic effects of the proposed Warner Bros. Discovery–Paramount Skydance merger and develop strategies to protect the region’s entertainment workforce.
The motion, introduced by Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath, directs the Department of Economic Opportunity to conduct a comprehensive economic impact analysis of the proposed acquisition, covering direct, indirect, and induced employment effects. An interim report is due in 60 days, with final findings and recommendations in 120 days.
Los Angeles County supports more than 312,000 jobs across the creative economy. Supervisors cited recent production slowdowns, labor strikes, wildfires, and ongoing industry consolidation as factors heightening concern about workforce stability.
“Entertainment is more than what we watch on a screen — it’s part of who we are as Angelenos and a cornerstone of our economy,” Horvath said.
The motion also directs the department to develop job training and placement programs for entertainment workers and authorizes County Counsel to submit formal comments to the U.S. Department of Justice regarding potential antitrust concerns and to monitor any state-level review of the deal.
