Murray: The beauty of shared connection through music

Carmen Lynch from “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and Eddie Ifft from Comedy Central co-headline a pair of shows in Eagle County this week.  Lynch flies in from New York City and Ifft from Los Angeles for the shows Wednesday and Thursday.

Vail Comedy Show will be at Lookout Bar in Avon on Apr. 1 and at Christiania Lodge at Vail on Apr. 2. Both shows will be hosted by the organizer of Vail Comedy, comedian Mark Masters.

Lynch has been on nearly every late night television show with credits including “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” “CONAN,” and “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.”

When asked about visiting the Vail area for comedy Lynch said, “Vail is so much fun. It’s beautiful and you feel rich just walking around. The best part is you don’t even have to ski. I’ve skied before but why would I when I could be sitting at The Little Diner eating pancakes.”

Ifft who has been seen on Comedy Central and SHOWTIME added, “I love working in Vail. I look like a chairlift operator who somehow wandered onstage and grabbed a microphone. It’s the only place where after the show people don’t ask for selfies, they ask if I can wax their skis.”

“This is really a special show, to have not one but two nationally touring headliners I have worked with before is a very exciting way to wind down what some would call a ski season,” Masters said.

Lynch and Ifft have worked together before over their multi-decade comedy careers.

“I love working with Carmen. We toured Scandinavia together and even had a near-death experience in Denmark, so we’re bonded for life,” Ifft said. “She’s incredibly funny and can also do her act in Spanish, which I can’t do. I’m still trying to get it right in English.”

Lynch added, “I love working with Eddie. We once did a Scandinavian tour—great shows, great crowds—and at one point we had to run from a guy chasing us with a broken bottle. I guess he didn’t like the show.”

This is the last show of a ski season which saw Vail Comedy Show gift hundreds of tickets to working locals. Working locals can request free or heavily discounted tickets via the contact form at http://www.markmasters.co.

Memorial Day Weekend’s Vail Comedy Festival will take over Vail Village May 22-24 with dozens of comedians, magic and cinema. Passes provide access to the second year of FILM@Vail Comedy Festival, a film festival within a comedy festival. It will include feature film presentations “On A String”, a comedy about a Juilliard trained violist that won best screenplay at Tribeca Festival and “Before We Get Started” a documentary about warm-up comedy with Jim Gaffigan, Seth Meyers and dozens of other famous comedians.  A slate of shorts will also be played on a fourteen foot wide movie screen. The official selections are intended to help bring laughter and de-stigmatize discussion about mental health. Founding partner SpeakUp ReachOut, a local mental health non-profit, is back with support for this second year.

More information about Vail Comedy Show and no-fee tickets to all shows are available at http://www.vailcomedyshow.com. Vail Comedy Festival information and passes can be found at http://www.vailcomedyfestival.com.
