Something spooky is happening in Widow’s Bay — or not, according to Matthew Rhys’ character in the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Apple TV horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay.
The first-look just dropped ahead of the premiere later this month. With a cast that’s populated by Emmy winners and nominees and some serious behind-the-scenes talent, Widow’s Bay is one to keep an eye on, so here’s everything you need to know.

The Trailer
The Plot
Rhys plays Tom Loftis, mayor of the titular island hamlet, located 40 miles off the coast of New England. The politician is desperate to revitalize the remote town by bringing tourists in, but the locals and their belief that the island is cursed stand in the way of that.
The Cast
In addition to Rhys, returning to television after last year’s The Beast in Me, Widow’s Bay features Office Space alum and Barry Emmy nominee Stephen Root and winner in Comedy Supporting Actor for Somebody Somewhere, Jeff Hiller.
The Creative Team
Widow’s Bay was created by writer-producer Katie Dippold, previous a writer for Parks and Recreation who has also worked on films such as The Heat, Ghostbusters, and the most recent Haunted Mansion from Disney. And directing is Hiro Murai, who helmed all of Station Eleven and won an Emmy for producing The Bear.
The Premiere Date
Widow’s Bay will debut on Apple TV on April 29.
The Awards Chances
With The Studio not returning in time for Emmys consideration, Apple has an opportunity to liven up the Comedy categories with some new blood. While its Shrinking is already poised to be a serious contender, the Emmy-vetted talent in front of and behind the camera on Widow’s Bay could add to an already-strong stable.
