Proving that it’s never too early to start thinking the next Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and ABC have announced key dates for the upcoming 99th Academy Awards and the show date for the landmark centennial in 2028. The next two ceremonies will mark the final awards held at the Dolby Theatre and aired on ABC before the Oscars begin streaming on YouTube from their new location, downtown Los Angeles’s Peacock Theater, in 2029.
The 99th edition of the Oscars will shift up exactly one day from this year’s 98th Academy Awards, taking place on March 14, 2027.

This year’s mid-March date, which was decided on to avoid audience competition with the Winter Olympics and traffic competition with the Los Angeles Marathon, drew some criticism among awards watchers, who felt the later date over-extended the length of the season. The ceremony had the Oscars’s smallest audience since 2022, when the pandemic drastically downsized the event.
In 2027, the L.A. Marathon — which runs through the heart of Hollywood — is scheduled for March 7, which is likely a big reason for the later Oscar date.
The 100th Oscars will be held one week earlier the following year, on March 5, 2028 and air on ABC.
In addition to announcing the dates for the 99th and 100th Oscars, the Academy also revealed the full timeline for the former, which can be found below.
