An Australian TV presenter was forced to issue a statement after his April Fool’s joke involving Meghan Markle sparked backlash.
Channel Seven’s Larry Emdur said that he has received “angry messages from around the world” after what he described as a “hugely successful April Fools gag”.
Last Wednesday, April 1, the 61-year-old shared a new post on his Instagram account, “announcing” that the Duchess of Sussex agreed to an interview with him during her visit to Australia later this month. He wrote in the post: “This is beyond massive! Ahead of her Australian tour The Duchess of Sussex has agreed to one single interview and IT IS WITH US !!! Enormous thanks to Iska.B.Fluchadorè and Petra Shmaykle from C.A.A America, who got us over the line.
“Not gonna lie, the list of ‘don’t ask’ questions is long but we still can’t wait .
“I’ve deliberately turned off the comments section as I’m not interested in those nasty threads that can sometimes follow Meghan . See you after 9 on our biggest @morningshowon7 ever @kyliegillies.”
However, it appears that his innocent joke sparked a negative reaction from some people, with the TV presenter revealing that he remains unfazed by the “angry messages”.
In a new post this Wednesday, Mr Emdur reuploaded the original picture with the “announcement” and a smiley face drawn over it.
He said: “Hey dddderrrrrrr !!! This was an April Fools joke, I’m still getting trolled and angry messages from around the world, which of course I couldn’t give a fat flying stuff about.
“I posted it on April 1st then it was sent around the world and landed in various feeds days later, so it somehow lost its April Fools sting, which I think is bloody hysterical.
“That constitutes a hugely successful April Fools gag in my book. Anyway, if you’re angry then just unfollow me ‘coz I don’t do angry.”
GB News also reported that the Duchess of Sussex’s representatives dismissed any such appearance.
