A New Orleans native who graduated from Mt. Carmel Academy is joining WVUE-TV’s meteorology team, she announced on social media this week.
Grace Williams said in a Wednesday post that she will start at the station in May. She currently works as a weekend meteorologist at the University of Alabama-owned WVUA 23 in Tuscaloosa.
Williams, 22, will graduate from Mississippi State University next month with a degree in broadcast meteorology, according to WVUA’s website.
“This moment means absolutely everything to me. New Orleans is where I fell in love with weather, watching the local meteorologists on TV, dreaming of one day being just like them,” Williams said in a social media post. “Now I get to come home and live out that dream in the city that shaped me. I cannot wait to serve YOU, New Orleans!!”
News of Williams’ hiring comes a week after Fox 8 meteorologist Hannah Gard said she would be leaving the station and the Crescent City so her husband could continue his education to become a physical therapist.
Williams first found her desire to report on the weather when she stood in the eye of a Category 4 hurricane, according to WVUA’s website. She is also a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority and has explored 10 national parks, her bio said.
