The best new music from the week of April 10th!

It’s New Music Friday! As evidence suggests, a lot has transpired in the world of music. Under normal circumstances it would be worth talking about. However, it’s probably best we let the music speak for itself, based on this week’s newest releases. This week’s edition of New Music Friday features releases from Gucci Mane, Chris Brown, DJ Khaled and many more.

New Music Friday Picks

Gucci Mane – “Crash Dummy”

Moving forward, Pooh Shiesty’s recent arrest has shown that the streets and music don’t mix. Given this context, Gucci has turned a lot of heads with his diss, showing how far he’s grown. In the long run, this track will be looked at as a pivotal moment in rap music by proving violence is not the only problem-solver.

Chris Brown – “Obvious”

Unquestionably, it’s time for Chris Brown to get back in the booth and make something fresh. In retrospect, “Obvious” is another carbon copy of every other single he’s made in the last 10-years. Simply put, he refuses to display any artistic growth, despite only being 36.

DJ Khaled – “One Of Them” ft Future & Lil Baby

Over the past decade, DJ Khaled has genuinely stopped caring about putting out quality music. The bottom line is “One Of Them,” is bottom-tier slop from the beginning to the end. The reality is obviously one of the features intended for this track to be a throwaway and Khaled salvaged it.

R&B Corner

Kehlani – “Back and Forth” ft Missy Elliott

Up until now, when’s the last time you heard the name, Missy Elliott? Keeping this in mind, Kehlani took listeners through a nostalgi ride in her latest single. In today’s landscape, Kehlani is doing her best to fill Aaliyah’s void, both culturally and sonically.

Destin Conrad – ‘wHIMSY Deluxe’ (Album)

In most scenarios, there can be a lack of effort with deluxe albums. Upon reflection, that’s thankfully not the case for Destin’s ‘wHIMSY’ that feels very intentional. As evidence shows, each of the newly added 7-tracks perfectly displays his unbound versatility.

Blxst & Big Sad 1900 – “Day After Day” ft Lori Perry

In most cases, we tend to make a big deal out of artists who sound redundant. To reassess, we have to make an exception for Blxst’s new single, despite sounding familiar to past releases. At heart, the sample does do a lot of the heavy lifting, but Blxst closes the deal and completes this song.

Female Fetales

Tink – ‘F**k Mary Kill’

Taking everything into account, Tink should’ve easily blossomed into a star by now. However, after one listen of ‘F**k Mary Kill,’ it’s very apparent she lacks the natural hit-making ability. In essence, the clock is definitely ticking for her to drop her “magna-carta” of albums for her to reach her full potential.

SUNSHINE BENZI – “Scottie Pippen”

Over and over, each year we are presented with a new viral star, and right now it seems to be SUNSHINE BENZI. Looking ahead, “Scottie Pippen” aims to bring the same viral impact as “TRUMP THE BILL” but with some 2000s nostalgia. Sadly, with her having a similar rap style, it’s going to take a lot for her to beat the Nicki comparisons.

Rapper’s Delight

Snoop Dogg – ‘10 Til Midnight’ (Album)

For the most part, you will never see us slander an artist with the longevity like Snoop. Be that as it may, his last album is a real snoozefest made just for the “uncs.” While it is true that some of the songs slap, there’s not enough replay value to justify it’s existence.

Skrilla – “Free40” ft Youngboy Never Broke Again

Interestingly, Skrilla & YB are the rap collab that we never knew we needed. What’s interesting is that this song truly has no substance or deeper meaning, yet it still sounds good. Taking a closer look, both artists did a phenomenal job of recreating what it feels like to be in the trenches.

Isaiah Rashad – “SAME SH!T”

Finally, our last spot of New Music Friday goes to TDE’s Isaiah Rashad. It’s important to understand that anytime an artist taps into their cultural roots they are able to enter a flow state. Take for example, “SAME SH!T” in which he channels his inner Three6Mafia flow, and the end result is epic.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
