Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the condolences, saying, “Deeply saddened by the passing of Asha Bhosle Ji, one of the most iconic and versatile voices India has ever known. Her extraordinary musical journey, spanning decades, enriched our cultural heritage and touched countless hearts across the world,” in a post on X.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, “Profoundly saddened by the demise of the great musical genius Asha Bhosle. She has been an inspiring and mesmerising singer who reigned over our hearts for generations.”
Union Minister Piyush Goyal said, “Didi Asha Bhosle ji, the embodiment of sweet voice and unparalleled singing, elevated Indian music to new heights over decades. Her voice is not merely a confluence of notes, but an unspoken bond of emotions that cannot be captured in words. A connection that will forever remain alive in every heart. The songs she sang will continue to resonate across generations just like this.”
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari described her passing as “unfortunate”, calling it a significant loss to the music field in India, and noting that Bhosle had “made many songs immortal with her voice” and would be remembered for generations.
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said the news was “sad”, adding, “After Lata Didi, she stood as a support for a major era in music. That support has now fallen,” while noting that her songs would remain her legacy.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the “divine voice that touched the hearts of the past four generations has fallen silent”, while Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the news as “heartbreaking”, saying another star from the Mangeshkar lineage had been lost.
Condolences also poured in from the film industry, with actor Shah Rukh Khan saying, “It’s truly sad to learn about Asha Tai’s passing her voice has been one of the pillars of Indian cinema and will continue to resonate world over for centuries to come. A talent that will outlive many, she always showered me with blessings and love and i will miss her. Rest in Peace Asha Tai love you (sic).”
Actor Hema Malini said, “Asha Tai no more! I just can’t believe how someone so full of life, she who lent so much vivacity and character to her songs, has left us grieving (sic).”
Actor Akshay Kumar said, “No words can convey the loss I feel at Asha Bhosle ji’s demise. Unki surily awaaz hamesha hamesha ke liye amar rahegi (Her melodious voice will remain immortal forever). Om Shanti (sic).”
Actor Kajol said, “Ashatai was, is and will always be a legend .. as a singer, as a persona and as a human being (sic).”
