Fetty Wap is opening up about one of the most defining and costly decisions of his early career.
During a recent appearance on The Crew Has It, the “Trap Queen” rapper revealed that he handed over his first million-dollar payday to a close friend, honoring a promise he made before his rise to fame.
“First million dollar check, had it in my hand, the one I gave it to, never speak again. I’ve never seen it yet. Yeah ain’t ever seeing it,” Fetty said.
According to the rapper, the decision was rooted in loyalty. He explained that the friend had financially supported him during the early stages of his career, helping fund the groundwork that eventually led to his breakout success.
“Like yeah, because that was my promise on him because he put all the money up for us to really get lit,” he said.
Fetty detailed how the money came in two separate checks, $500,000 each, and how he didn’t hesitate when it was time to follow through.
“It was two checks, $500,000 and $500,000… I’m looking at this s**t and I’m like, [here],” he recalled. “And he’s like, ‘What you want off that?’ I’m like, ‘It’s yours, we good.’”
Despite the gesture, Fetty says the relationship didn’t last.
“I never seen it,” he added, referring to both the money and the friendship.
Still, the New Jersey artist made it clear he doesn’t carry resentment. Instead, he views the situation as a lesson from a time when both he and those around him were still figuring things out.
“I didn’t have to do nothing but it’s just being loyal,” he said. “I don’t fault nobody… we both just ain’t really know too much.”
Fetty also emphasized that his mindset at the time was focused on long-term success rather than a single payout.
“By the time we got that money, bro, we was good. I knew that million was gonna come again regardless,” he explained. “I ain’t think about it like that… I keep my word. If I say I’ma do something, I’ma do it.”
