A teaser clip of the upcoming season of the TV drama Euphoria has sparked backlash, with some saying Sydney Sweeney is dressed up as a “sexualised child.”
Sweeney’s character Cassie can be seen lying on a gold sofa holding her legs up, wearing a sheer top, with her hair in pigtails and a dummy in her mouth. The scene is part of a storyline which finds Cassie as a California housewife who’s engaged to Nate (Jacob Elordi) and turning to OnlyFans to fund her glamorous wedding.
“If more people knew me, I would be huge,” Sweeney tells her friend in the clip.
The comment ignited widespread outrage online, with viewers accusing the production of crossing a line. Critics labelled the scene “sick” and “vulgar,” prompting some fans to call for a total boycott of the show.
“This is sick,” someone commented.
“This should not be normalised,” another commented.
“Vulgar. She’s dressed up as a sexualised child. This has crossed a line,” vented a third.
“We shouldn’t be okay with this … the entire production should be held responsible for this abhorrent mess,” said a fourth
The HBO series — created by Sam Levinson and starring Zendaya, Hunter Schafer and Alexa Demie — has regularly attracted criticism for its heavy emphasis on nudity, substance abuse and self-harm.
The premiere of Euphoria season three also sent the rumour mill into overdrive last week when two clips of Zendaya interacting with Levinson and Sweeney at Euphoria’s season three red carpet event in LA went viral on social media.

Clips from the premiere showed the actress briefly hugging Levinson before being pulled away by her team, despite his apparent insistence on a photo, while another moment appeared to show Zendaya walking straight past Sydney Sweeney and Euphoria co‑star Maude Apatow without acknowledging them. Reports also claimed Zendaya stayed at the event for only around 10 minutes before leaving.
The seemingly frosty interactions fuelled long‑running rumours of a feud between Zendaya and Sweeney, sparked earlier this year by claims Sweeney had flirted with Tom Holland, Zendaya’s partner, during a visit to the Euphoria set — an allegation later described by an insider to The Sun as an “open secret.”
Neither star has addressed the speculation.
