Britney Spears needs to commit to her post-treatment plan so she doesn’t “fall apart” after she leaves rehab, according to an expert.
Richard Taite, founder of Carrara Treatment, where celebrities go for addiction treatment, exclusively told Page Six that it’s imperative the pop star does not check out of the treatment facility “without structure.”
“A strong post-treatment plan means continued therapy, accountability, and a controlled environment that supports early recovery,” Taite told us. “If that piece isn’t taken seriously, even great treatment won’t hold.”
Taite also noted that checking into rehab is only “the beginning” of someone’s recovery journey.
“Keeping them supported after they leave is what actually determines the outcome.”
Spears, 44, voluntarily checked herself into a treatment facility after her March 4 DUI charge, her rep confirmed to Page Six on Sunday. She’s due in court on May 4.
Sources previously told us Spears was “ashamed and embarrassed” about her DUI and saw the incident as a wake-up call.
According to Taite, Spears’ treatment plan “has to be built around” her, and not the other way around.
“That means identifying what’s actually driving the behavior and adjusting the clinical approach in real time,” Taite said. “Good treatment isn’t static, it evolves as the patient does.”
Lisa Bonner, a prominent New York-based entertainment lawyer, told us that Spears’ decision to enter rehab after her arrest, but before she’s potentially charged in the case, is “both a personal and strategic legal” move.
Bonner explained that the rehab stint could “influence” prosecutors and the court to shy away from giving the “Toxic” singer a “harsher penalty.”
“If sustained, it could position her for a more treatment-focused outcome rather than jail,” Bonner said.
In conclusion, Bonner noted that the charges of the case will ultimately dictate Spears’ “final sentence.”
On March 4, Spears was taken into custody after authorities saw her swerving in and out of lanes. They allegedly discovered an unknown substance inside her car during her arrest and she is believed to have been on a cocktail of alcohol and drugs.
She was released the following morning from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
At the time of the arrest, a source exclusively told us that Spears was “incredibly emotional” and “doesn’t want to let anyone down, including her fans.”
Spears broke her silence on her arrest last month on Instagram, when she shared videos with her son Jayden, 19.
“Thank you guys for all your support… spending time with family and friends is such a blessing!” Spears wrote.
