The Kansas City Royalsplaced infielder Jonathan India on the 10-day injured list with left shoulder subluxation on Monday, the team announced. The move is retroactive to April 19. Versatile infielder/outfielder Nick Loftin was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.
The team later shared an update on India’s injury, via Anne Rogers.

“India is dealing with same shoulder injury as he has in the past, received injection and is seeing another doctor this week to determine next steps,” Rogers reported.
It remains to be seen how much time India will end up missing with the shoulder injury. Further details will be provided after he meets with the doctor to determine the next steps.

The Royals are just 7-15 overall and in last place in the American League Central heading into their game on Monday night against the Baltimore Orioles. Kansas City was expected to make a competitive run in the AL Central this year before the season. The ball club certainly still could compete, but Kansas City has not played well to begin the new campaign to say the least.

Although India has struggled in 2026, losing him to injury is still a brutal blow to the team without question. The 29-year-old has slashed just .167/.310/.313 across 17 games played. Nevertheless, India is a veteran with a proven track record.
India has not been the only Royals player struggling in the 2026 season. Kansas City is currently last in all of MLB in runs scored with a mark of 71. The Royals are also just 27th in batting average and 28th in OPS. Offense has been a problem for the ball club.
They will need players to step up soon.

Royals Looking to Meet Preseason Expectations
The Royals were one of the most exciting teams heading into the season. Superstar Bobby Witt Jr. was set to lead an intriguing core of players including Maikel Garcia, Vinnie Pasquantino and Jac Caglianone. Of course, veteran catcher Salvador Perez can not be overlooked.
Yet, the ball club is simply struggling to win ball games at the moment. It is only April so Kansas City could certainly turn things around, but the lineup’s underperformance is difficult to ignore.
