Hulu wants some of that Traitors hype, but instead of getting celebrities to figure out who’s a Faithful or a Traitor, all their alliances and enemies are out in the open. The Mob, the streamer’s answer to getting into the celebrity competition game, follows a group of stars in an Italian villa as they compete for up to $250,000 in challenges inspired by mob movies. In each episode, the contestants will elect one person to be their don, a.k.a the person who controls who gets money, who’s safe, and who’s sleeping with the fishes — or in the world of reality TV, who heads back to chill at the hotel for the rest of the game. Do Italian hotel TVs have reruns of Pawn Stars too?
Parker Posey, the ambassador for those who are meant to live a comfortable life, is fabulously hosting The Mob. The veteran ABC unscripted exec Rob Mills explained to Vulture earlier today how Alan Cumming showed other actors that you can be both a great host and a respected actor. “I think you have to really give a lot of credit to Alan Cumming for being the trailblazer here.,” he said. “He showed you can do great scripted work and you can also do The Traitors. I don’t think anybody looks at him any differently. That opened the door to so many people who five years ago would have been unthinkable. We then heard Parker Posey was a fan of the genre, and was potentially interested, but it had to be the right show.” The Mob is being produced by Studio Lambert, which makes The Traitors for Peacock, along with Primal Media.
The Mob welcomes many familiar faces to the family, including The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’s Demi Engemann, Bachelor Nation’s Maria Georgas, and Harry Jowsey, just to name a few. Below is the trailer introducing the full cast into the world of loyalty and deception (competition reality TV).
