Apollo recruits Thomas to launch sports and entertainment line

Apollo has appointed Paul Thomas to lead a new sports and entertainment (S&E) class, as it expands its specialty division and broadens its underwriting portfolio.

The move brings S&E together with Apollo’s existing contingency and accident and health capabilities, forming a more unified specialty offering aimed at driving growth in targeted segments.

Thomas (pictured)  joins from AXA XL, where he served as global head of sports, media and entertainment, bringing more than 20 years of experience across the sector.

He will lead the development of the new class, focusing on building tailored solutions across sports, media and entertainment risks.

The launch reflects Apollo’s strategy to diversify its portfolio and build specialist capabilities in areas where it sees long-term opportunity.

Chris King, head of specialty at Apollo, said the appointment strengthens the platform’s proposition.

“Paul joining our specialty division is an exciting opportunity for Apollo,” he said.

“His experience and recognised expertise in the S&E markets will enhance our position as we work to deliver one cohesive proposition for our partners,” King added.

James Slaughter, chief underwriting officer at Apollo, said the new class aligns with the firm’s broader underwriting strategy.
