Last year, the whole Stereogum staff went out to Barcelona for the Primavera Sound Festival, and we had a time of it. That festival goes all night, and I’d barely slept when we went to the first day of the fest. I was so tired. After a triumphant Charli XCX headlining set, we all decided to head back to the AirBNB. This was the sensible thing to do. It was past three in the morning, and we had a lot of festival left to go. On the way out, though, we passed one stage where lights were flashing all over the place while this berserk industrial music played. I really wanted to stay, but I simply had nothing left in the tank. I still kind of wished I’d stayed. The act on that stage was Brutalismus 3000.
Brutalismus 3000 are a German dance duo that dig into the most hardcore strains of rave from the past few decades. Their debut album Ultrakunst came out in 2023, and they just announced plans to follow it with a new one called Harmony. It’s got contributions from some big-name guests: Underworld, 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady, movie star Anya Taylor-Joy. Also, there’s one song called “A Milli” and another called “Leonard Cohen,” and I think that’s pretty funny. The first single is a Boys Noize collab, just as he’s fresh off the triumph of the Nine Inch Noize album.
The new Brutalismus 3000/Boys Noize track is called “I Bring My Gun To The Function,” and it’s a real blown-out beast of a track. It sounds like Justice, if Justice wanted to rip the face off your skull. Below, check out the Mau Morgo-directed video and the Harmony tracklist.
