Alex G has shared two previously unreleased tracks, ‘Good Green Friend’ and ‘In The Yard’, on his long-untouched personal YouTube account.
‘Good Green Friend’ details a feeling of equal parts despondency and euphoria at the hands of a metaphor which suggests the singer has been smoking a lot of marijuana: “Mama, I’m burnin’ in the grass, haven’t laughed so hard in a minute, I’ve been trying so hard to be with you, I need to come back down,” he sings on the short track.
The track was written and recorded during the process for last year’s album, Headlights. The American artists shed some light on the piece during the New York release show for Headlights, when he performed the song live.
Before the live rendition, he shared with fans that it was about when he “got super high and had a great time” after a break from smoking weed.
On ‘In The Yard’, Alex G is in mourning for a past self, singing through autotune, “He disappeared a long time ago, he had nothing to lose, trust me, I know. And when I came to take his place, he was brittle and cold; he had found his way.”
Both accompanying music videos contain landscape images spliced together, depicting forests, water, railroads, and trees, as well as atmospheric sunsets and onlookers enjoying the view. These are his first uploads in six years on the account.
The ‘June Guitar’s singer is currently embarking on a 2026 tour, which will keep him busy throughout May. He will next perform in Sacramento on May 7th, before moving on to the likes of San Jose and Portland.
In spare moments, he is penning the original score for the upcoming Jane Schoenbrun film, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma. He previously scored the Jane Schoenbrun movie, I Saw the TV Glow, which Far Out placed in the official list of the top ten best film scores of 2024.
