An EMT, um, reacted after being hit by a liner off the bat of the Royals’ Carter Jensen.
Rookie catcher Carter Jensen struck out in the fourth inning of the Royals’ 5-2 loss Wednesday to the Athletics in West Sacramento, California.
But Jensen made A’s starter Luis Severino work in the plate appearance, which was unfortunate for an EMT near the Royals dugout.
Huh?
Well, Jensen saw just one ball in the at-bat, but Severino needed seven pitches to get the strikeout. Jensen fouled off three pitches, and one of them was lined right at an EMT.

The line drive off Jensen’s bat hit the man in the groin as he was standing to the side of the Royals’ dugout. Statcast showed the exit velocity was 98.5 mph and there was just 0.6 seconds of “opportunity time,” which means the ball was scorched.
“That’ll knock the wind out of ya,” Royals.TV analyst Rex Hudler said.
Without missing a beat, Ryan Lefebvre correctly noted: “Or worse.”
It appeared one of the Royals trainers checked on the man, who likely is still feeling that today.
