Met Gala is expected to bring “visually daring” ensembles to the iconic museum steps this year.
On Monday, May 4, Vogue will gather Hollywood’s biggest stars, like Sabrina Carpenter and Teyana Taylor, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for fashion’s biggest night of the year.
Although a few celebrities brought “defiant” appearances to the event last year, Fashion Week Brooklyn founder Rick Davy believes this year will prove to be bolder. The stylist, who has dressed a few of the attendees in the past, has broken down the theme of Costume Art and shared what to expect out of the ensembles set to command attention on the Met steps.
Speaking exclusively to Daily Express US, Rick said the 2026 Met Gala is “shaping up to be one of the most visually daring in years, and not in a subtle way.
“This year’s theme, ‘Costume Art,’ paired with the dress code ‘Fashion Is Art,’ pushes the red carpet into full exhibition mode, where the body itself becomes the canvas,” he explained.
Rick expects a “shift” at this year’s Met Gala, explaining, “Unlike past themes that leaned into specific eras or designers, 2026 is about the relationship between clothing and the human form across history, sculpture, and fine art.”
The stylist believes the looks will “feel less like outfits and more like installations.”
He believes the carpet will see anatomical silhouettes, body-mapped couture, “nude illusion” and sculputral draping inspired by marble statues.
Within the ensembles’ compositon, Rick predicts experimentation with padding and reshaping that will “exaggerate the figure.”
“This is fashion as a concept, not just style,” he pointed out.
He is setting the bar high with the co-chairs, Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, and Venus Williams, who he says he “expects a high-gloss interpretation of the theme,” describing the ladies’ anticipated attire as “polished, powerful and headline-making.”
On Monday, November 17, Vogue gave the first look at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring 2026 exhibition. The theme was revealed simply as “Costume Art,” with no subtitle added purposely to act as “a statement of intent.”

The exhibition itself will also center around the correlation between clothing and the human form. Curator Andrew Bolton previously said the focus will be “the dressed body,” with the collection pairing art pieces, like painting and sculptures, with archival garments from the Costume Institute.
He has organized the exhibition around three thematic body types. The first will emphasize the usual silhouette represented in art. The second centers around body types that are often overlooked like pregnant and aging bodies. Lastly, universal bodies will be spotlighted, focusing in on the anatomical sense of the subject.
The Met Gala is held every year as a charity event and fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. It also marks the opening of the department’s annual fashion exhibition.
This year’s event will not only celebrate the opening but also the inauguration of the Institute’s first permanent gallery at the museum.
