Jenna Bush Hager revealed that Meryl Streep is distantly related to Anna Wintour, and Meryl’s co-star, Emily Blunt, was totally shocked.
Fans had a lot to say about Emily’s reaction.
Meryl Streep just revealed the most unexpected family connection—and Emily Blunt had the best reaction to it.
The duo is currently starring in The Devil Wears Prada 2, which hit theaters on May 1. Ahead of the film’s debut, Meryl, Emily, and their co-stars Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci did an interview for an episode of Jenna Bush Hager’s Open Book With Jenna podcast.
During the discussion, Jenna dropped a bombshell about Meryl. It turns out, Maryl and famed Vogue editor Anna Wintour, who is the inspiration for Meryl’s character Miranda Priestly, are distantly related on Meryl’s mother’s side.
“You and Anna are like, fifth cousins or something,” Jenna said in a clip posted on Instagram on April 29.
“I know!” Meryl excitedly responded.
While Jenna’s revelation didn’t shock Meryl, it had her cast members totally surprised. And when Anne nudged Emily to listen to what she’d just heard, Emily couldn’t help but freak out.
“No, you’re not,” Emily asked in total disbelief. “That’s fantastic!”
“Handle that!” Meryl enthusiastically replied. “If only I’d known—maybe I would have copied her!”
Fans had to voice their thoughts about the situation online.
“Emily’s response is the best … 😂,” one person cracked up in the comments. “Emily’s ‘No, you’re not’ is catching on!!!!” another agreed. “I LOVE HER SOOOO MUCH SHE IS SOO CUTEEE 😂,” a different follower added.
Hopefully, these two get together for a real-life family reunion.
