Sarah Ferguson was issued a dire warning after reports claimed she’s inundated with offers about a bombshell memoir. The former Duchess of York has kept a low profile since disturbing new details about her relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein emerged in the latest tranche of files released by the US.
After months of being hidden, Fergie was spotted in Australia, with sources claiming she’s weighing in on her options. One of these options is the release of a bombshell book that presents her side of the Epstein scandal.
But a PR expert said that a memoir could potentially backfire for the former Duchess.
Celebrity PR specialist Kayley Cornelius told the Daily Express: “In an age where audiences are more critical than ever and aware of how media productions operate, including the editorial control involved in high-profile interviews, anything she says is likely to face scrutiny.”
The expert added: “There’s no amount of crisis PR that can fully save her now.”
Ms Ferguson is understood to have received multiple opportunities to present her side of the story but has refused, notwithstanding the prospect of a six-figure payment.
Meanwhile, veteran royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said that the former Duchess should rather “keep quiet” for her daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s, sake, but added that that is not “her style”.
Mr Fitzwilliams told the Daily Express: “Since, to our knowledge, she has no sources of income, this or something like this [a TV interview] is a real possibility.
“It is possible that one of the major TV stations could make her an offer. [But] Sarah Ferguson could [also] use a little-known outlet and the interest would be enormous.”
He added: “Her most dignified plan would be to keep quiet, if only for the sake of Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, for whom the King has affection. However, this is not her style.”
Being mentioned in the Epstein files does not indicate wrongdoing.
