Fox has opted not to renew sophomore comedy series Going Dutch, starring Denis Leary, for a third season. This marks the network’s first cancellation this season ahead of unveiling its 2026-27 lineup at the Fox upfront presentation next Monday, May 11.

The move is not surprising. As Deadline reported in February, Going Dutch was the one true bubble scripted series on Fox this season. Like fellow live-action Fox comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale, Going Dutch is fully owned by Fox Entertainment.

More from Deadline

Animal Control, which has been renewed for a fifth season, is higher rated and has a licensing deal with Netflix in addition to international sales, which bring revenue to the network. Meanwhile, Going Dutch is the lowest-rated entertainment program at Fox. Leary is well liked internally, so a renewal was under consideration. Ultimately, the network decided not to proceed with a third season.

On the comedy side, Fox has its large contingent of animated series returning next season and recently greenlighted a Stewie spinoff from Family Guy. The network also has hourlong dramedy Best Medicine, which has been renewed for a second season, and is in active development on half-hour live-action comedy series, with a greenlight expected soon but not necessarily before the upfronts.

In addition to Animal Control and Best Medicine, Fox also has renewed its sophomore medical drama Doc, freshman thriller Memory of a Killer as well as Fear Factor: House of Fear.

Going Dutch centers on the arrogant, loudmouth U.S. Army Colonel Patrick Quinn (Leary), who — after an epically unfiltered rant — is reassigned to the Netherlands, where he is punished with a command position at the least strategic army base in the world, notable for its Michelin Star-commissary, top-notch bowling alley, lavender-infused laundry and the best (and only) fromagerie in the U.S. Armed Forces. Surrounded by a diverse group of military misfits, the colonel tries to reinstate discipline and professionalism with the help of the base’s previous interim leader, who just happens to be his estranged daughter, Captain Maggie Quinn (Taylor Misiak).

In addition to Leary and Misiak, the series stars Danny Pudi, Laci Mosley and Hal Cumpston.

Going Dutch made two high-profile additions for Season 2: Kristen Johnston joined the cast in a heavily recurring role and Hilary Winston came in as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside creator/executive producer Joel Church-Cooper.

The comedy was produced by Fox Entertainment Studios and is distributed by Fox Entertainment Global. Church-Cooper and Winston executive produced alongside Leary and Jack Leary through their production company Amoeba.
