Another child of a celebrity is set to attend an HBCU this fall. R&B legend Usher’s son, Usher Raymond V, also known as Cinco, recently graduated from high school and will be attending Howard University in the fall.
Usher posted a picture of himself and his son on his Instagram story on Monday afternoon, and Cinco changed his Instagram bio to reflect that he will be attending Howard University in the Class of 2030. Cinco is one of Usher’s 4 children, born in November 2007 with his ex-wife, Tamika Foster.
Cinco is the eldest of Usher’s children, and Usher spoke about the responsibility of being a father in a 2008 Essence interview.
“You should never abandon that responsibility, which is to be there, reading with your child, being supportive of your child’s growth,” he told the outlet. “That is communicating. That is making the choice to put your child before your own vanity.”
Cinco joins several other celebrity children around the nation who are currently attending HBCUs. Most notably, all 3 of the children of Pastor Jamal Bryant and Real Housewives of Potomac star Gizelle Bryant attend HBCUs. Grace Bryant attends Florida A&M, Angel Bryant attends Spelman College, and Adore Bryant attends Hampton University.
Both Angel and Adore recently became members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., with Adore paying tribute to her mother following her initiation into the organization, as Gizelle Bryant attended Hampton University and was a member of the campus chapter during her time at the institution.
The children of Boris Kodjoe and Chris Spencer also attend Howard University. Cinco attending the institution further shows the trend that Black celebrities are choosing HBCUs for their children’s education.
