Meghan McCain didn’t hold back when talking about the Met Gala.
The biggest night in fashion took place this year on May 4 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Various celebrities attended the fundraiser and took the chance to dress up in wild couture as they celebrated the theme “Costume Art” with the dress code “Fashion is Art.”
But many people haven’t been happy with the Met Gala, especially this year as Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, were honorary co-chairs. But it isn’t the calls to boycott the Gala that have Meghan angry.
Meghan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share her thoughts on the night. She wrote, “I think the met ball is tone deaf given the times of extreme political populism we’re living in, the concept is creepy and the outfits look like villains in the hunger games.”
The daughter of John McCain added, “AOC will always be a moron for having attended.” She was referring to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who attended the 2021 Met Gala.
AOC wore a white dress designed by Aurora James that turned heads with the red letters on the back of the dress that read, “Tax the Rich.” Republicans like Ted Cruz were furious that the New York representative attended the event.
A bipartisan 10-member House Ethics Committee addressed accusations of impropriety against AOC, as House members cannot accept “a gratuity, favor, discount, entertainment, hospitality, loan, forbearance or other item having monetary value.” In July 2025, they ruled that she had violated that rule.
The committee ruled that the $990.76 rental fee was less than the value of the gown and its accessories. They suggested that Ocasio-Cortez should pay $2,733.28 to the dress designer and donate $250 to the Costume Institute, which is what the Met Gala raises money for.
This year’s Met Gala raised money for the Costume Institute, which will have the Spring 2026 exhibition “Costume Art” on display starting May 10, 2026, until January 10, 2027.
The exhibition features almost 400 objects from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s collection and will juxtapose garments with works of art.
This year’s Met Gala was co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and lead chair Anna Wintour. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos were Honorary Chairs as they were the lead sponsors for the Gala this year.
