Adele comeback buzz rises as fans await new music

A new documentary from producers Taraji P. Henson (Joe Turner’s Come and Gone) and Mark Selby swill focus on the life and career of singing legend and Broadway vet Darlene Love, according to a report in Deadline. Darlene Love: I Know Where I’ve Been (drawing its title from the anthem Love sang in the original production of Hairspray) is being directed by Barry Avrich.

The documentary, which doesn’t yet have a release date, will not be Love’s first. One of the most noted studio singers of the mid-century and an inductee in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Love was one of the central figures of 2013’s 20 Feet From Stardom, about backup singers. Love’s best known classics include “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home)” and “He’s a Rebel,” though the latter was originally credited to The Crystals.

Love has been able to step out of the shadows several times on Broadway, bringing her iconic vocals to Leader of the Pack in 1985, the infamous original Broadway production of Carrie, the 1994 revival of Grease, and the original 2002 production of Hairspray.
