Princess Anne carried out a formal engagement in London on Wednesday as she attended a ceremonial gun salute marking the third anniversary of the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. The princess arrived by horse and carriage at Hyde Park and wore a long red peacoat. The statement red coat is one that she has owned for at least 26 years.
She has famously worn it to numerous high-profile events over the decades, including the Christmas Day service at Sandringham as far back as 2000, and more recently, on Christmas Day 2025.
Soldiers of the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery carried out a precisely timed 41-gun royal salute at midday in a carefully choreographed display of military tradition. 71 horses drew First World War-era field guns into position across Hyde Park, creating a striking scene of pageantry and precision ahead of the ceremonial firing.
A military band performed in advance of the firing
A band from the Irish Guards performed a programme of popular pieces and traditional marches from late morning, drawing spectators toward the saluting position near the Joy of Life fountain in Hyde Park.
Shortly before midday, 71 horses pulling six First World War-era field guns moved into the park in formation. Riders from the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, wearing gold-braided uniforms and busby hats, brought the guns into position before the horses were led away.
On command, the 41-gun royal salute began. Six guns fired in sequence at intervals of around ten seconds until all rounds had been discharged. Each shot produced a flash and a loud report, with smoke visible across the park.
After the final round, Princess Anne carried out an inspection of the regiment. The review comes ahead of a series of upcoming ceremonial duties, including participation in the State Opening of Parliament.
The Honourable Artillery Company also performed a 62-gun royal salute at the Tower of London at 1pm.
