Legendary pop star Bonnie Tyler has been rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after experiencing a perforated intestine, according to reports.
The Total Eclipse of the Heart singer, 74, is understood to have undergone the procedure in the Algarve region in Portugal, where she has lived since 1988. The Welsh-born artist, originally from Mumbles in South Wales, is currently recovering in hospital following the emergency operation.
A representative for the 80s icon said, “We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery.” It comes as Post Malone fans fumed “get rid of Jelly Roll” as their tour was postponed.
Bonnie’s representative continued to The Sun, “The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”
The performer achieved worldwide fame with her No.1 hit Total Eclipse of the Heart in 1983, alongside four additional top ten singles, including It’s A Heartache and Holding Out for a Hero. Bonnie, who married property developer Robert Sullivan in 1973, represented the U.K. at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, placing 19th with her entry, Believe In Me.

She dropped her 18th studio album, The Best Is Yet To Come, in 2021. That same year, the music legend discussed aging, attributing her youthful appearance to consistent Botox treatments. The 80s superstar revealed, “I’ve been having Botox twice a year, for many years, darling.
“I haven’t had the opportunity since the Christmas before last. But I’m doing alright. I’m quite fit for my age, thank God. And I’m never going to retire. I look at Tom Jones, he’s amazing. His voice is as strong as ever – and he’s got ten years on me.”
Last year, the music legend opened up about the devastating moment she experienced a miscarriage at 39. Speaking to The Mirror, the Welsh icon shared the painful memory, “I did have a miscarriage when I was 39. At that point, it just felt like the right time to have a baby,” reports the Express.
“For the first time, I felt maternal, and we stopped all precautions, and it happened straight away. But then I lost the baby, and it didn’t happen after that.”
Yet despite the sorrow, Bonnie maintains an optimistic outlook, reflecting, “It’s weird, but I count myself blessed to have known that I could be pregnant, that I have been pregnant.
“Robert and I were so sad when it happened, but I’m not the type to dwell on things. The following weekend, I was in Paris for a TV show, then I just moved on.”
The Total Eclipse of the Heart performer comes from a big family, with three sisters, two brothers — one who has passed away — and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, many living close to her former home in Swansea.
