Savannah Guthrie took the time to give one of her former teachers a special shoutout after missing her visit to the Today show.
The 54-year-old co-anchor of the NBC morning show took to her Instagram Stories on May 7 to post a photo of one of her teachers — Mrs. Nintzel — who stopped by the Today Show Plaza on Wednesday, May 6, missing her former student by minutes.
The moment happened on Wednesday, May 6, at 8:30 a.m., when Guthrie’s co-anchor Craig Melvin announced, “Savannah had to leave a little early. She will be right back here tomorrow though.”
Melvin made the announcement on the Today Show Plaza, where Mrs. Nintzel was waiting with a handmade sign to cheer on Guthrie.

“Speaking of, this was Savannah’s teacher,” Jenna Bush Hager declared, highlighting the personalized poster. “Was Savannah a great student?”
“Oh yeah, great student,” the teacher replied.
And while she didn’t get the chance to chat with her former teacher, Guthrie did take a moment to give Mrs. Nintzel a special social media shoutout.

“Thank you for coming,” Guthrie wrote alongside a photo of her teacher holding up the poster, which featured photos from the journalist’s freshman and senior years.
No explanation was given for Guthrie’s abrupt exit from the Today show on Wednesday. The longtime anchor was back and in good spirits on Thursday as she reported alongside Willie Geist during the show’s two hours.

Nancy, 84, was taken from her Tucson, Ariz., home on Feb. 1, and Savannah joined her family in Arizona amid the ongoing investigation.
After months of searching, no suspects have been identified in the case. Savannah recently spoke with Hoda Kotb about her decision to return to the Today show.
“It’s hard to imagine doing it because it’s such a place of joy and lightness and I can’t come back and try to be something that I’m not,” Guthrie said of returning to Today. “But I can’t not come back because it’s my family. I think it’s part of my purpose right now. I want to smile. And when I do, it will be real. And my joy will be my protest. My joy will be my answer. And being there is joyful. And when it’s not, I’ll say so.”
Anyone with information about Nancy’s disappearance is asked to please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.
