5 things to do in Bloomington include movies, music and a market

Movies and music are two of the best forms of entertainment and this weekend, there’s both in the Bloomington area. Whether you want country/folk or new wave/pop music or would rather enjoy a double feature at the recently opened-for-the-season Starlite drive-in or family movie night at the library, there’s something for you.

If you’d rather browse through antiques, hand-made items and collectibles, then check out the vendor market at the fairgrounds.

Benjamin Tod, Colton Bowlin at the ‘Bird

On Thursday, May 7, rising singer/songwriter Colton Bowlin will open for Benjamin Tod at The Bluebird, 216 N. Walnut St. Doors open at 7 for the 8 p.m. 21-plus show. Tickets are $42.23.

Tod is a guitarist who fronts the dark country band Lost Dog Street Band. His music is a blend of folk, country and Appalachian storytelling. Bowlin recently released his debut album “Grandpa’s Mill,” which serves as a deeply personal tribute to his upbringing.

Pink Pony Club Dance Party at Back Door

Bloomington’s Axipitor will be at The Back Door for a Pink Pony Club Dance Party featuring Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Sabrina and others on Friday, May 8. There’s no cover for the party, at 207 S. College Ave. (behind Atlas). It starts at 11 p.m. with fun until 3 a.m. for anyone age 21 or older.

Starlite Drive-In showing double feature

Starlite Drive-In Theater has opened for the season, showing “Project Hail Mary” and “The Devil Wears Prada 2” on Friday, May 8, and Saturday, May 9. Both movies are rated PG-13. “Project Hail Mary” will begin at 8:50 p.m. with “The Devil Wears Prada 2” at 11:47 p.m.

“Project Hail Mary” features Ryan Gosling as science teacher Ryland Grace, who wakes up on a spaceship light year from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission: solve the riddle of the mysterious substance causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save Earth … but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone.

“The Devil Wears Prada 2” picks up 20 years later with Miranda, Andy, Emily and Nigel (Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci) returning to the streets of New York City and the sleek offices of Runway Magazine.

Tickets, which can be purchased online at starlitebloomington.com, are $11 for adults, $6 for children and $9 for seniors age 60 and older, military service members, veterans and students.
