Stanley Tucci Says Relationship with Wife Felicity Blunt ‘Just Sort of Made Sense’ Despite 21-Year Age Gap

Stanley Tucci is opening up about what he loves about his wife Felicity Blunt.

“Well, look, I never, I wasn’t sure that I would ever remarry,” Tucci, 65, told Jenna Bush Hager on the Thursday, May 7 episode of her podcast Open Book. The Devil Wears Prada 2 actor has been married to costar Emily Blunt‘s sister since 2012; his first wife Kate Tucci, whom he married in 1995, died of breast cancer at 47 in 2009.

“I never thought I would have children again. And when I met her, it just sort of made sense even though there is this age gap of 21 years,” Tucci added.

“And obviously, I knew her family, or I knew her sister was one of my best friends. And we just hit it off,” the Hunger Games star continued. “We had a lot in common, even though we had nothing in common. And it just sort of stuck.

“But I think she changed my life in the sense that she gave me a sense of security,” Tucci said. “She gave my children a sense of security, and she’s fun — she’s fun to hang out with.”

Stanley shared his oldest three children — twins Isabel and Nicolo, 26, and daughter Camilla, 24 — with Kate.

Stanley and Felicity first met at the 2006 premiere of the original The Devil Wears Prada movie. They reacquainted themselves when they attended Emily’s wedding to John Krasinski in 2010 and began dating shortly afterward.

Felicity, who works as a literary agent in the United Kingdom, and Stanley have since welcomed two children, including son Matteo, 11, and daughter Emilia, 8.

During the podcast conversation, host Hager, 44, said that she thinks “fun is so underrated, by the way.”

“It’s so true. I mean, she’s really fun, and she’s incredibly positive, which I am not always,” Stanley added of Felicity. “And like you say, she’s absolutely — I mean, her mind is incredible. Her capacity to take in information, not just from a book, but from the world and process it and turn it into something else is just extraordinary. She’s pretty cool.”

Stanley appeared on Hager’s podcast to discuss his new book What I Ate in One Year, and he credited Felicity with encouraging him to pursue a career path as an author and food “influencer” in recent years.

“It completely changed my life. I mean, I would be sitting here maybe talking to you about a movie I did or something,” he said on the podcast. “But, no. Now I’m sitting here talking to you about a book I wrote, which, you know, spawned a whole bunch of other things.”

“I think we were all shocked by the success of it,” the Julie and Julia actor added. “But what it did was it opened up my world completely, and it was the show, the show that I had done on celebrity.land, that had changed things a bit already. But then, this thing just blew everything. Blew it all up.”

In a 2023 BBC radio interview, Stanley shared that he was at first “afraid to get into a relationship and I kept trying to break it off” when he and Felicity began dating, in part due to their age difference.

“I’m 21 years older than she is and I didn’t want to feel old for the rest of my life! But I knew that this was an incredibly special person,” he said at the time.

“Felicity has been so incredible taking on a widower and three children whose mother died,” he added in that BBC radio interview. “That’s a huge thing, at a very young age, too. If anybody made things better for all of us, it’s her. She’s the one.”
