When Gwyneth Paltrow created goop, it was a weekly e-mail newsletter providing divisive advice back in 2008, but today, it has expanded into the beauty, fashion, wellness, and fitness world. Most recently, her pop-up kitchen, goop Kitchen, has started doing delivery; and even tapped a criminal to promote it.
In case you missed it, earlier this week, goop Kitchen shared a video starring criminal and internet celebrity Anna Delvey. The account shared the video with the caption reading, “For when you d̶o̶n̶’̶t̶ ̶w̶a̶n̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶ can’t leave the house.”
In the video, we see Delvey donning a chic outfit with her ankle monitor front and center, opening the door and saying, “Can’t go out? Don’t be so dramatic.”
Now, Paltrow commented on the video, saying, “😂I can’t with you guys,” and wow, so many fans are fuming.

One fan wrote, “@gwynethpaltrow why are you glamorizing a person who victimized lower income and middle class families? She didn’t just steal from the rich. She stole from working class moms and elderly folks.”
“not caring about the poor joining with not caring about the poor, yay!! 😍😍😍 Grift baby grift, steal from those working class people and act like an icon for it 🫠,” another wrote. And public figure Terra Newell commented, “Officially unfollowing @goopkitchen because of this ad. You will no longer be getting my services. I almost lost my life due to a con artist.”
And this, is how goop Kitchen has already made a huge controversy.

For those who don’t know, Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, came from the small Russian village of Domodedovo and quickly fell in love with the socialite life. She claimed that she was a German heiress whose family’s money was either in oil, technology, or solar, depending on who she was talking to. She shelled out hundreds of dollars for tips, events, and so forth. But how did she get this money? She created fake bank accounts, wrote bad checks, and grifted whomever she could.
She lied to multiple banks, claiming she had millions in a Swiss bank account, which led to her securing a $70,000 loan from Citibank, a $100,000 loan from Fortress Investment Group, and attempts to secure an additional $22 million from City National Bank, per BuzzFeed News.
But Delvey’s world started to crash when people realized she was never going to pay them back. In July 2017, Delvey was arrested for the first time after failing to pay her large outstanding hotel and restaurant bills.
After an initial arraignment, she briefly left for California and was extradited to Rikers Island Jail, where she stayed for over 18 months.

In April 2019, Delvey was charged with eight counts, including grand larceny, attempted grand larceny, and theft of services, and was sentenced to four to 12 years in state prison, owing around $200,000 in restitution to her victims. In a wild turn of events, in Oct 2022, she was granted a $10,000 bail bond and released from prison.

Since 2022, Delvey has gone to numerous New York Fashion Week events, and has even hosted parties on the roof of her NYC apartment. She’s done art shows, NFTs, and even signed with Bunim/Murray Productions to create a reality TV show, podcast, and a book, per Town and Country. Along with that, she was on Dancing with the Stars.
And now, she’s partnering with goop.
