The best new music from the week of May 8th!

It’s New Music Friday! At face value, this seems like a light week for new music. On the flip side, the music that did drop, will certainly hold us over til the next big drop. This week’s edition of New Music Friday features standout releases from Chris Brown, 6lack, Young Nudy, and many more.

New Music Friday Picks

Chris Brown – ‘Brown’ (Album)

Historically speaking, Chris Brown has been repeating the same mistakes with his last slew of albums. However, ‘Brown’ is just another bland album with a couple of good songs. In retrospect, this album would’ve been more enjoyable with half the tracklist being cut.

6lack – “Ashin The Blunt” ft Young Thug

Typically, 8-year leaks never see the light of day, but 6lack’s “Ashin The Blunt” gives me hope that could change. As it stands, Young Thug is easily one of 6lack’s best collaborators due to their instant chemistry. Looking forward, I wouldn’t mind an EP from this duo as they haven’t missed yet.

Young Nudy – “Ya Dig”

On the surface, Young Nudy is easily one of the most consistent Atlanta rappers out right now. From start to finish, “Ya Dig” checks every box for a trap anthem. Throughout the track, we are easily reminded why he’s comfortable in a league of his own.

R&B Corner

Teyana Taylor – “Bed of Roses” ft Wale

As mentioned before, nostalgia is something that will always be an attention-grabber. Taking this further, Teyana Taylor creatively rehashed an Aaliyah classic with “Bed of Roses.” Looking ahead, this track perfectly served its purpose in making me crave a full remix album from her.

Naomi Sharon – ‘Better Days”

At present, Naomi Sharon is easily one of the R&B rising stars you need to familiarise yourself with. Overall speaking, “Better Days” perfectly encapsulates the peaceful vibe she brings to every track. Undeniably, she’s the best thing to come out of the OVO camp that isn’t Drake.

Rapper’s Delight

Key Glock – “GO”

Without a doubt, Key Glock can be easily considered one of the most consistent mainstream rappers. Sadly, “GO” falls short of his full potential, as Glock plays it too safe. Revisiting his past work, it’s glaring that he’s at his best when he gets more creative with his wordplay.

Action Bronson – ‘PLANET FROG’ (Album)

On closer inspection, middle-aged rappers are in the midst of a renaissance with Action Bronson leading the charge. Picking up where he last left off, he finds more ways to reinvent himself with some of the most unorthodox instrumentals yet. Without hesitation, I’d easily say this is one of his best works, based on the sheer highs he’s able to reach.

Fresco Trey – ‘Numb’ (EP)

Finally, for our last spot of New Music Friday goes to Fresco Trey’s vulnerable EP, ‘Numb.’ From beginning to end, there never seems to be a dull moment as he pours his heart out for listeners. Ultimately, if he’s able to give us another project of this caliber, he would have to be mentioned in some mainstream conversations.

We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday.
