A loose horse wreaked havoc in London last week during a major military event near Buckingham Palace. On Friday, the annual Major General’s Inspection of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment took place.
It is thought to be one of the “most demanding tests” of the regiment ahead of their ceremonial duties. A video, which has now gone viral online, showed a loose horse briefly causing chaos as the cavalry made their way back down The Mall toward Buckingham Palace.
The grey horse was seen trotting up the ranks as they made their way to the Palace, disrupting other horses with riders on its way.
The incident is said to have happened after the inspection, which takes place once a year, was completed.
A yellow flag could be seen hanging on the horse’s loose saddle. Mounted police officers and military personnel quickly cornered the culprit, safely bringing the upheaval to an end. Both the rider and the horse were unharmed.
The video was shared online by the King’s Guard Tours, who often post videos about the Royal Family, the Changing of the Guard and the Household Cavalry.
They said in a post: “Thankfully, the rider and horse were both fine, and everything quickly returned to normal as the procession continued as planned.”
The Household Cavalry is a union of the two most senior regiments in the British Army: The Life Guards and The Blues & Royals. It is divided into the Household Cavalry Regiment and the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.
The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment are the ceremonial face of the regiment, conducting mounted state and public duties in London.
This May, they will be involved in the King’s Escort for the State Opening of Parliament, the Major General’s Review for Trooping the Colour and the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
