A San Luis Obispo County teenager is starring in a major new television show streaming on Peacock.
Released on April 9, the 10-episode series “The Minature Wife” stars Matthew Macfadyen and Elizabeth Banks, who play Les and Lindy Littlejohn — a couple struggling with marital issues and a power imbalance in their relationship, which only intensifies when a technological mishap shrinks Lindy down to a doll-sized 6 inches.
19-year-old Sofia Rosinsky, who splits her time between Arroyo Grande and Los Angeles, plays Lulu Littlejohn, the married couple’s flawed young adult daughter, who’s jammed between her parent’s problems.
Rosinsky has previously starred in Amazon’s “Paper Girls,” Hulu’s “Death and Other Details” and in “Young Sheldon.” She told The Tribune that landing on “The Miniature Wife” was an incredible, though daunting, opportunity to work alongside a “wickedly talented” cast, crew and creative team.
“I think working with such gifted and seasoned professionals on all sides, both in front of the camera and behind, you learn from watching them do what they do,” she said. “So I definitely think that I grew.”
How Arroyo Grande teen got into acting
Rosinsky and her family moved from Venice Beach to Arroyo Grande in 2011.
She said her family initially fell in love with the area after it became their designated pit stop on road trips up the state.
“It was the perfect solution because we were exactly halfway between Los Angeles, which is where our lives still were, and then Northern California, which is where our grandparents were,” Rosinsky said.
She was inspired to start acting after attending acting camp as a 4-year-old. It helped that her parents also had careers in the film industry. Her father was a studio musician, and her mother worked as an independent filmmaker, actor, producer, editor and writer.
But Rosinsky said neither of her parents were thrilled that she was interested in being a child actor due to the difficult, intense nature of the industry.
“They made it really clear at the beginning, like, if we see you changing at all, you are out,” she recalled them saying.
SLO County actress plays a ‘little monster’ on new TV show
On “The Minature Wife,” Rosinsky said she plays an honest depiction of a young person who’s intelligent, flawed and at times self-destructive.
“She’s kind of a little monster. She’s like the mini-version of both of her parents. She’s inherited all their flaws and also all of their brilliance,” she said. “I think that Lulu’s kind of biggest problem that she’s facing is that she doesn’t know what she wants to do, who she wants to be, and she feels like time is running out to make that decision.”
Rosinsky spent six months filming the television series in Toronto. She said the set was run like a “well-oiled machine” where she was able to learn and take chances.
Now, when people tune into the show on Peacock, she hopes that viewers are able to laugh and relate to the love story.
“It’s two really flawed people trying to see eye to eye, literally,” she said. “I hope that people can also see how relationships are salvageable when there’s love there.”
What’s next for SLO County’s Sofia Rosinsky?
Rosinsky said she’s continuing to audition for more acting parts, but in the meantime, she’s focused on running Sisters Rosinsky.
She and her sister, Alexis Rosinsky, founded the production company in 2017 to start creating short and feature-length movies.
“We decided to start that just because it is sort of impossible for us to be in the same room without spinning some kind of story,” she said.
The sisters are currently working on their first feature film starring Tessa Ferrer. The anthology feature will be told in three vignettes, the first of which was shot at Norgrove Railway in Arroyo Grande.
