Florence Pugh is getting ready to pull double duty with her latest film project—the actress is set to star in and produce a movie adaptation of Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library, the New York Times bestselling book that has sold over 56 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 56 languages.
“It’s happening,” Haig shared on Instagram. “Directed by Garth Davis, who made an amazing film called Lion. Script by the supremely talented Nick Payne and Laura Wade. Blueprint Pictures and Studio Canal at the helm. The library is coming to life in 2027.”
In a statement for Deadline, the author added, “I am so happy that Nora’s story is in such great hands, and that her myriad possibilities will be vividly reawakened by the absolute perfect team. And I can’t wait for people to see my book reimagined for the big screen.”
Here’s everything we know about the movie so far.
Who is in the cast?
Deadline reported on May 11 that Pugh “will play Nora Seed, who finds herself in a library between life and death with the chance to experience all the potential lives she could have lived.” No other cast members are attached to the project yet.
What is The Midnight Library about?
For those who have not read the book, the official summary reads: “Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe, there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?
“In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig’s enchanting blockbuster novel, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision. Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through the Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place.”
When will The Midnight Library come out?
There’s no release date for The Midnight Library yet, but Deadline noted that “the plan is for the project to enter pre-production this fall with shoot at the start of 2027.”
