Meghan Markle is convinced that Princess Kate‘s solo Italian tour is a PR move aimed at stealing her and Prince Harry‘s thunder, an insider tells In Touch.
“From Meghan’s perspective, the timing couldn’t be more obvious,” says the insider. “She and Harry have just come back from this great overseas trip [to Australia] and they’re finally getting some positive press, and suddenly Kate’s everywhere again.”
The Princess of Wales, 44, made headlines with the announcement, which will mark her first overseas visit since going public with her cancer diagnosis in 2024.
“It’s clear she’s trying to reestablish her territory and Meghan is convinced it’s because Kate is feeling threatened,” says the insider. “Meghan has always said that Kate was unnecessarily competitive with her from the first time they met, and as far as she’s concerned this is more of the same.

As In Touch previously reported, the source says it’s well-documented that the royals do not want Harry, 41, and Meghan, 44, doing these unofficial tours.
“Meghan says this whole rollout of appearances and projects by Kate is a calculated move to shift the focus back onto her and the monarchy,” the insider reveals. “She doesn’t believe for one second it’s a coincidence.”
Kate is scheduled to arrive in Reggio Emilia on May 13, per the BBC, and will spend her two-day visit learning about the city’s approach to supporting children’s development — a cause that’s very important to the mother of three, who launched the Royal Foundation Center for Early Education in 2021.
“Meghan says every time she and Harry start building momentum, the royal machine suddenly swings into action and steals the spotlight away from them again,” reveals the insider, “and she’s sick and tired of it.”
