A sequel to the 2017 comedy “Girls Trip” is in the works, comedian Tiffany Haddish confirmed during a red carpet event over the weekend.
Haddish, 46, shared the news while speaking to Extra on the red carpet at Netflix’s “The Roast of Kevin Hart” event on Sunday, May 10.
“‘Girls Trip’ is happening,” she said while pointing on the carpet to producer Will Packer, whose company helped produce the film.
“That’s the boss right there,” Haddish said about Packer. “He said it.”
The film stars Haddish, Regina Hall, Queen Latifah and Jada Pinkett Smith – the Flossy Posse – four longtime friends who have slowly drifted apart due to life’s demands. The group travels to New Orleans for the Essence Festival, which celebrates Black women and Black culture.

When Extra’s reporter asked Haddish if it was “a big deal” that she’d be reuniting with castmates for the second film, she said they’ve been in touch already.
“We’ve been hanging out,” she said. “But for you all to see, yes. Yes, it is a big deal. It is in the works.”
USA TODAY contacted Will Packer Productions, Universal Pictures and Perfect World Pictures on May 13 for details on the sequel.

Where will ‘Girls Trip’ sequel take place?
Haddish’s comments come after Tracy Oliver, a writer on the first film, discussed the sequel with ET and The Hollywood Reporter in early 2023, saying the next film could have an international setting – Ghana.
“I feel like we’ve seen people in Vegas or Miami,” Oliver told The Hollywood Reporter. “I want to be able to take us to places where we don’t normally go onscreen. The decision (to set it in Ghana) came from what’s the biggest wow factor? We haven’t really seen a movie like this set on the continent of Africa – I’m always trying to figure out how to push boundaries.”
“Girls Trip” was released in July 2017. The film had a $19 million budget and grossed just over $115 million while in theaters, per IMDb.
Malcolm D. Lee directed the comedy, and Kenya Barris (“Black-ish”), Oliver (“The Blackening”) and Erica Rivinoja (“Borat Subsequent Moviefilm”) wrote it.
Who’s in the Flossy Posse?
Throughout the R-rated comedy, the four women laugh, dance and apologize to each other after things go awry. Here’s who’s part of the group:
Ryan (Regina Hall) – She’s a motivational speaker and author who was invited to speak at the Essence Festival. She brought her friends along, reuniting the group.
Sasha (Queen Latifah) – She once wanted to be a journalist but instead runs a tabloid, and suffers from financial strain.
Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith) – She’s a divorced mother who has kept to herself since the split.
Dina (Tiffany Haddish) – She previously worked in an office but was canned for hurting a co-worker who ate her food.
