Eric Clapton was struck on stage with a surprising item — a vinyl record.
The 81-year-old singer had returned to stage for an encore while applause was heard erupting through the crowd. As he gave a wave to the adoring crowd. Suddenly, a record flew thorugh the air and whacked him. The startling moment occured during his show date in Madrid on May 7.
Eric appeared startled as he took a step back and away from the flying object before proceeding on his way. He reportedly cut the show short, skipping his encore. It comes as a Rolling Loud attendee fell after being struck by flying trash can thrown by another festival-goer.
Rather than end the night with his hit Before You Accuse Me, which is his typical exit song, the songwriter left fans with the J.J. Cool cover, Cocaine.
Luckily, he didn’t appear injured, and Eric even played his next show in Barcelona with no incident.
Fans were upset by the assault.
“It almost knocked him over,” one fan wrote with concern on X, formelry known as Twitter.
However, another laughed off the incident, saying, “A hit record?!”
Some were also disappointed by Eric’s choice to cut off the show early.
A third fan said, “He cancelled after that?! Any excuse ….”
Eric isn’t the first victim of flying objects on stage. In fact, artists have spoken out about the trend, urging fans to control themselves. Otherwise, the musicians risk injury.
Around the time Eric was struck, another artist was suffering a similar fate.
During Bring Me the Horizon’s show in St Louis on Monday, lead singer Oli Sykes was struck in the head by a cellphone. Unlike Eric, Oli appeared to be a bit injured from the moment, admitting he was even diagnosed with a mild concussion.
The rock star penned on X, “The phone to the head definitely smarted and I ended up with a mild concussion, but the swelling’s gone down a decent amount already … I was struggling a bit on stage afterwards because singing was putting a lot of pressure on the wound and making things feel a bit disorienting while performing, so I’m sorry on my part for what may of seemed like a half-hearted performance.”
Pop star Billie Eilish also previously spoke out about items chucked at her.
“I’ve been getting hit on stage with things for like literally six years … It’s absolutely infuriating when you’re up there … But you know it’s out of love, and they’re just trying to give you something,” Billie said in 2023.
The strikes didn’t stop much, though, as she was hit with an object in December 2024, but had no issue continuing with the show.
