Another Shakira and World Cup collaboration? Count us in. The Colombian superstar’s official 2026 FIFA World Cup Anthem, “Dai Dai,” featuring Burna Boy, will be available to stream on Thursday evening.
The “Whenever, Wherever” hitmaker teased the track ahead of its release on Instagram, where she shared photos of herself at the famed Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, alongside the caption, “Can’t wait to show you the entire song!!!
Dai dai, Ikó, dale, allez, let’s go!! Que ganas tengo de que escuchen la canción entera!”
“Dai dai” is an Italian expression that means “come on” or “go, go,” and is often used to encourage someone to push forward. The track’s multilingual chorus delves into a series of motivational phrases in different languages, including “let’s go.”
Shakira is no stranger to World Cup songs. She was also the official voice of the 2010 World Cup, for which she recorded the anthem “Waka Waka (Time for Africa).” While it was not the official anthem for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Shakira recorded “La La La (Brazil 2014)” as a theme song. She made her first World Cup appearance in 2006, when she performed her hit song “Hips Don’t Lie,” featuring Wyclef Jean, during the closing ceremony.
The official release of “Dai Dai” comes a day after FIFA announced its premier World Cup final halftime show, which will be headlined by Shakira, Madonna and Korean boy band BTS. Coldplay’s Chris Martin will curate the show.
FIFA unveiled the news on Wednesday with a video starring Martin and Elmo. In the clip, Martin asks Elmo for help finding massive stars for the halftime show. Elmo then suggests Madonna. The Cookie Monster then chimes in to suggest BTS, followed by Animal, who suggests Shakira.
“It’s where people get together and there’s singing and there’s dancing and there’s music, and it’s a chance to show how amazing all different kinds of humans are,” Martin tells Elmo about the halftime show. “And we get to raise some money for children’s education.”
The Super Bowl-style spectacle will take place during the final on July 19 at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium — temporarily renamed New York New Jersey Stadium — in support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a worldwide initiative designed to raise over $100 million to broaden access to education and soccer for children.
This year’s World Cup promises to be a star-studded affair. Several acclaimed artists are set to perform at opening ceremonies across the globe, including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA and Tyla, who will perform in Los Angeles; Alanis Morrisette, Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara and Jessie Reyez, who will take the stage in Toronto; and J Balvin and Maná, who will serenade audiences in Mexico City.
FIFA also has plans to “take over” Times Square during the World Cup finals weekend.
