A fan attending Wednesday’s game between the Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox at Rate Field was hospitalized after falling more than 10 feet and landing in the visiting bullpen, per The Athletic’s Zach Powell.
“Yesterday’s game was delayed in the fourth inning to allow White Sox personnel to treat a fan who had fallen into the visiting team’s bullpen. The fan was transported to a local hospital for additional treatment,” the White Sox said in a statement.
Officials have not released any further information regarding the fan’s condition.
The incident occurred during the third inning of Wednesday’s game. Pete Grathoff of the Kansas City Star reported that the man tumbled over a railing while celebrating a run scored by the White Sox on a sacrifice fly from Chase Meidroth. Grathoff added that the fan did not land on his head, and he was breathing while paramedics tended to him.
The game was briefly delayed as medical personnel tended to the fan. He was removed from the bullpen on a stretcher, and the White Sox announced that he had been transported to the hospital.
“We were talking with the security guard down in the bullpen at the time, and he said that by the time he (the fan) got to the hospital, he was in much better condition,” Royals reliever Nick Mears told reporters after the game.
The White Sox went on to win 6-5 to improve to 21-21.
