The Devil Wears Prada 2 cast members Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt received multi-million dollar salaries to star in the eventual the box office hit.
According to Variety, Streep agreed to a $12.5 million payday, with Hathaway and Blunt each getting the same amount.
Prada 2 comes 20 years after the first installment, where Streep played intimidating fashion magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, with Andrea Sachs (Hathaway) and Emily Charlton (Blunt) as her assistants.
The sequel has been a huge hit, scoring $433 million internationally since it hit theaters on May 1. That’s good newd for all three actressses, who also have bonuses tied to the film’s success. If it continues to surpass the pre-negotiated box office goals, the outcome could determine whether the actresses receive more than $20 million in total. Prada 2, which also stars Stanley Tucci among the ensemble cast, had a $100 million budget, an increase against the $35 million budget of the first installment. The 2006 movie earned $326 million globally.
Prada 2 debuted at No. 1 at the box office in its first week and is on track to make over $500 million globally.
While visiting The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last month, Streep recalled the team behind the first Prada having to “scramble” to secure the cast’s budget out of fear of what she dubbed a “chick flick.”
“After Barbie and Mamma Mia! and other films that completely catch the studio by surprise, that people want to see them, because they have girls — they have women at the center of the story. So we had to scramble for our budget,” Streep said, adding that “they spent the money.”
