Who is the first TikTok user to reach 100 million followers, and what is the only sport that has been played on the moon? The answers to questions like these can be found at SSU’s Tuesday night trivia!
SSU hosted its last trivia night of the semester at Lobo’s Pizza and Pub, located on campus. After three separate competitions amongst sixteen teams, such as “Pysch Business” and “Mozz Sticks”, there was palpable anticipation in the room as they duked it out – it had all come down to this. It was the finality that would determine the winner of the semester.
The rules are simple. You have 45 seconds to answer each question on a sheet of paper. Correct answers are worth 1 point.
The answer sheets are collected after each round. There are a total of four rounds, with the categories being TikTok, sports, cartoons and general knowledge. After a few minutes of socializing and mental preparation, the battle begins. The biggest rule of trivia? Phones away! With proctors watching your every move, there’s no room for cheating in this competition.
The once lively music comes to an abrupt stop and the questions come swiftly one after another. There’s no room for error. Teams debate amongst themselves on what the right answer may be and suddenly the doubt slowly creeps in.
I was surprised that trivia night was such a popular event at SSU. Despite me attending for over four years, not once had I considered stopping by to see what it’s all about. My initial impression before walking through the door was that it would be a small intimate event; with maybe three teams at most in a quiet room. What I saw was the complete opposite.
Not a single chair was left unoccupied, with patrons chatter being able to be heard when walking past Lobo’s outside. Food and refreshments are available with purchase at the bar and a bustling kitchen can be heard nearby. Booming music creates an energetic atmosphere that hypes contestants for the ultimate battle of brains.
If I’d known this as a Freshman, I would’ve joined much sooner! Fortunately, I see a victory calling my name in the future.
In all, there’s four titles: first place, second place, third place, and the grand prize winner. Third place winners goes to the team “Squishies”, who won pens. Second place goes to the team “The Wiggles”, who also won pens and stress toys. First place goes to “Soup/Soup/Salad”, who
won socks. Finally, the ultimate grand prize winner was “Mozz Sticks”, who won mugs with the words ‘Tears of my trivia night components’.
Although this past trivia night was the last of the semester, stay tuned for next semesters’s shenanigans!
Next Tuesday Night Trivia will be held September 1,2026 from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at Lobo’s Pub.
