Key Points

  • Whoopi Goldberg censored herself live on The View amid recent scrutiny by the FCC.

  • The EGOT-winning actress nearly uttered a profanity before catching herself as she discussed a news story about Donald Trump.

  • “You caught it!” Sunny Hostin celebrated at the Hot Topics table.

Whoopi Goldberg just handled a nearly profane slip-up on The View with comical grace.

The EGOT winner and View moderator started this week’s round of episodes in amusing fashion, as she censored herself Monday morning before using a curse word live on the air.

During a Hot Topics discussion about Donald Trump sharing AI-generated images (including one of himself walking alongside an extraterrestrial), Goldberg estimated that the American public is growing weary of the president’s priorities.

“It’s not that they’re saying, ‘Oh, no more, no more,’ they’re saying, ‘Listen, I don’t have time for this,'” the 70-year-old said midway through the discussion. “There are folks on strike, there are people trying to get to their jobs, there are people trying to take care of their sick kids.”

She continued, “There are people in the country who are trying to make sense of how they can survive on a daily basis. They don’t have time for this bull…”

Goldberg then trailed off and looked toward the audience with a playfully mischievous look on her face, as the crowd applauded her for stopping herself in the moment.

“You caught it! You caught it!” panelist Sunny Hostin said, celebrating the save.

“I had something on my lip,” Goldberg joked afterward, before continuing on with her point.

“They don’t have time for any of this. They only have time to make sure they can get through the day with their family, safely,” she said. “If he’s not going to give a damn about it, you have to. And we do, and November will tell us, really, where we all are as a nation.”

Goldberg and her View peers are often censored on the air, with Ana Navarro and Sara Haines also using profanity on recent editions that prompted the show’s crew to cut their audio in the moment.

In November, a shocked Haines exclaimed, “What the f—?” after celebrity mentalist Oz Pearlman revealed her ATM PIN live on the air in an exchange Haines said was against her will.

Cohost Joy Behar later revealed that Haines had a “nervous breakdown” on set after the segment ended, which felt, to her, like a “betrayal” of Haines’ trust. (Pearlman did not respond to Entertainment Weekly‘s multiple requests for comment.)

In recent weeks, The View has come under fire from the Federal Communications Commission for allegedly violating the FCC’s long-standing “equal time” rule upon airing an interview with Texas senate candidate James Talarico.

FCC head Brendan Carr additionally said in February that the FCC would be “taking a look at” the show ahead of “an enforcement action underway,” with Disney responding in May via a petition for declaratory ruling. Legal representatives for Disney — the parent company of The View‘s network home at ABC — argued that the FCC’s alleged actions against the show “threaten to upend decades of settled law and practice and chill critical protected speech, both with respect to The View and more broadly.”

The View airs weekdays on ABC.
