GRAMMY-winning country artist Maren Morris is trading the stage for the small screen with a guest-starring role on CBS’s Sheriff Country. Morris appears in the penultimate episode of the drama’s first season, which aired Friday, May 15, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, with the episode streaming the following day on Paramount+.
Morris portrays Hazel, Skye Fraley’s (Amanda Arcuri) sponsor, arriving as a steadying presence after Skye relapses in the wake of her grandfather’s arrest and her mother, Mickey (Morena Baccarin), carrying out that arrest. The episode’s official synopsis notes that Sheriff Mickey Fox is simultaneously aiding a federal investigation into a high-stakes case involving alleged interstate crime and a web of local land deals.
Morris also debuts an original song, “Parachute,” written specifically for the episode. The track centers on themes of renewal, self-forgiveness, and emotional rebirth. Produced by longtime collaborator Jimmy Robbins, it pairs lush, ethereal production with Morris’s soaring vocal performance, providing a powerful emotional backdrop for the episode.
Morris reflected on the dual experience of writing the song and stepping in front of the camera for the first time. “Writing ‘Parachute’ was a really cathartic experience for me,” Morris said in a statement. “Tapping into the forgiveness of oneself is such an underrated emotion written about. The fact that it will soundtrack the episode I’m acting in is even more emotional. I had the best day on set and can’t wait to see this titular episode of a stellar first season of Sheriff Country.”
Morris also contributed a second track to the series, “Beat the Devil,” which became woven into the show’s world after CBS responded enthusiastically to an early version and incorporated it earlier in the season. Despite years of performing live, Morris acknowledged that acting presented a completely different kind of challenge — though she noted that memorizing someone else’s dialogue came more naturally than she expected. She told Us Weekly after filming that she was “really nervous,” adding, “I’ve never acted on screen before as anyone other than myself.”
Sheriff Country continues the tradition established by its parent series, Fire Country, which has featured guest appearances from country artists such as Kane Brown and Jelly Roll. Morris’s final album, Dreamsicle, was released in 2025 and chronicled a period of great personal upheaval and artistic rebirth.
