DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A Columbia woman is seeking upward of $50,000 after she was reportedly injured during a Hershey Bears game where players crashed into the glass, and she was cut by the shards.

The suit was filed Monday against Hershey Entertainment & Resorts, the company that owns the Giant Center, where the Hershey Bears had been playing the day of the incident on June 10, 2024.

During that game, two players reportedly collided with the glass right in front of where the woman had been seated.

The lawsuit says the “mechanical system” that has secured the glass failed, causing the glass to collapse on top of the woman.

She said the glass cut her leg, and she had to get stitches. She now has permanent scarring, the suit says.

The filing also says that after the glass fell, the on-air broadcaster said that the rink crew would “once again” come out and replace the glass. The announcer reportedly said that they’d previously replaced some of the glass, but the spot where the woman had been sitting was still “the older system” and that “we’ve seen it these last couple playoffs when the hits intensify, this glass has had some, uh, issues.”

The lawsuit accuses Hershey Entertainment & Resorts of failing to fix the known issue and continuing to seat fans there despite knowing the risk. It’s an allegation that a spokesperson for Hershey Entertainment & Resorts said the company denies.

As this matter involves pending litigation, we are unable to comment on the specific allegations in the complaint other than to say that we deny those allegations and intend to vigorously defend against the claims.
