Mary In The Junkyard Share New Song “New Muscles”: Listen

We are getting ever closer to the release of Mary In The Junkyard’s debut album. Role Model Hermit has already given us “Crash Landing” and “Candelabra,” and now the London upstarts have added a fabulous third single called “New Muscles.”

There’s so much happening in this nifty little song: that clattering auxiliary percussion; those eerie/charming wordless superhero-theme-song vocals; the elegant cello that gives way to propulsive bass; the half-rapped lyrics boasting about “new muscles all over my back.” It’s somehow whispery and minimal yet huge and direct.

And with director Luke Grieve’s video, it’s even better. Bandmates Clari Freeman-Taylor and Saya Barbaglia learned Muay Thai for the shoot, and they claim the fight in the video is real. Check it out below.
