Whenever we get to sit down and chat with an artist whom we admire, we always feel so grateful. Today, we had the privilege of getting to know artist MICHAELA. Based in London, MICHAELA makes R&B and pop music for all the girls who need a little bit of emotional clarity (and who, like us, get their clarity through their favorite artists’ music). With contemporary production and a timelessness mindset at her front, MICHAELA just released her new song, ‘TTYN,’ and is expected to drop an EP later this year. There’s so much more to learn about her, so let’s dive right in…
GETTING TO KNOW MICHAELA
Hi MICHAELA, welcome to The Honey POP! To get us started off, please share with readers three adjectives to describe your sound.
Cinematic, vulnerable, and unapologetic.
What is your music story? When and how did you know you wanted to pursue this professionally?
Music was never a hobby for me; it was always the place I went to make sense of my emotions. I started writing songs at 18 as a way to process things I didn’t know how to say out loud. At some point, I realised this wasn’t just something I loved, it was something I needed to do. The moment I knew it had to be a career was when I noticed people connecting to my demos in a way that felt bigger than me. I realised my honesty could actually mean something to other people, and that’s when it became serious.

If our readers have never heard your music before, what is one song from your discography that you would have them listen to first?
‘Fight Myself.‘ It captures the core of who I am as an artist – emotionally raw, dramatic, self-reflective, and a little chaotic in the best way.

Your new song, ‘TTYN,’ releases May 21st! We can’t wait for everyone to hear it. Tell us a little bit about the song and how it previews your EP coming later this year.
‘TTYN’ is playful on the surface but emotionally loaded underneath. It’s about detachment, power, and knowing when to emotionally clock out of a situation that no longer serves you. Sonically, it’s confident, polished, and addictive, but lyrically, it still carries that vulnerability that runs through all my music. It’s a perfect preview of the EP because the project explores different versions of me – soft, dramatic, healing, unbothered — and ‘TTYN’ represents the unbothered era.
In what ways do you think your music, and ‘TTYN,’ is pushing the boundaries of the current state of music?
I want to make music that feels cinematic and emotionally honest without being watered down. I don’t think vulnerability and glamour have to be separate things. I want my music to feel like a very real diary entry.
You’ve described yourself as “a vintage girl in a modern world.” How do you incorporate that vintage feel into your music, if at all?
I’m obsessed with timelessness. The way I write melodies, the drama in the lyrics, even the way I present myself, is very inspired by old-school icons, but placed in a modern sonic world. I love that contrast of nostalgic emotion with contemporary production.

We love your style and personal branding. In what ways have you brought your creative vision to life in the making of ‘TTYN’ and the EP?
Everything is intentional – the visuals, the styling, the tone, the attitude. ‘TTYN’ leans into this polished, slightly chaotic, high-fashion energy that mirrors the emotional detachment in the song. The EP as a whole is very cinematic visually. I don’t see songs as just audio – I see worlds, colours, characters.
You are doing your first headlining show on May 21st in London. How does it feel to perform on stage in your home city to a crowd of people singing your lyrics back to you?
Surreal. There’s something really emotional about performing in your home city because these are the streets and places where the songs were written. Hearing people sing my lyrics back to me in London feels like a full-circle moment.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD?
There is still much to come for you in 2026! What was one key moment that happened in your career thus far this year, and what is one thing yet to happen that you are looking forward to as the second half of this year approaches?
A key moment was realising that things are starting to feel real – shows, releases, momentum, people connecting. It’s no longer just a dream in my head. In the second half of the year, I’m excited for the EP to come out and for people to finally understand the full picture of who I am as an artist.
