  • Bucks County and the Philadelphia region are hosting numerous events to celebrate the upcoming 250th anniversary of the U.S.
  • Festivities include historical lectures, reenactments, community festivals and parades across towns such as Morrisville, Doylestown and New Hope.
  • Celebrations are to feature a variety of activities, including live music, food, art exhibits and educational discussions.

As the country approaches the 250th anniversary of its founding July 4, the celebrations have already begun rolling out.

Throughout Bucks County and the surrounding Philadelphia region, there have been many people, places and events that have played monumental roles in making the U.S. what it is today — from General George Washington crossing the Delaware to the peace treaty signing between Chief Tamanend and William Penn.

To help you to honor and reflect on the historical significance of all who took part in pushing this nation forward, here are some of the America 250 events happening throughout the area.

History: Newtown’s unsung WWII hero created a ‘group chat’ for soldiers

May 23: Historical Lectures in Morrisville

Historic Summerseat is presenting two lectures by Joel Farkas, starting at 11 a.m. with “Remember the Ladies: Women in the time of the American Revolution” and “The Declaration of Independence: America’s Birth Certificate” at 2 p.m. The event is free to attend.

May 24: Historical Speakers in Morrisville

Alisa Dupuy is to portray Betsy Ross and share about her contributions to the nation’s independence. Her speech is to be followed by Sam Davis portraying Washington, who’s to discuss the dark days of the American Revolution, which is to include a reciting of “The American Crisis.”

May 25: Memorial Day Community Gathering in Morrisville

Summerseat is to host a free reception following the Morrisville Memorial Day parade with free hot dogs and hamburgers, music by Traveling Man Entertainment, activities and games

May 30: Bucks County Community Big Sing in Doylestown

Grammy-nominated artist Moira Smiley and members of the Bucks County Choral Society are to lead the community in singing together songs to celebrate America and its musical history. It is a pay-as-you-wish event and registration is suggested in advance to receive the songs and lyrics via email.

May 30: Ye Olde Yardleyville Festival in Yardley

Gather Place and Yardley Friends Meeting are hosting an immersive 19th century historical experience to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary and Yardley’s history through storytelling, reenactments, traditional food and music, and an Underground Railroad walking tour.

May 30-31: Living History Festival in Morrisville

The free two-day festival focuses on portraying life in the 18th century with historical reenactors, local crafters, tradesmen and vendors.

June 6: Dublin Community Day

Celebrate Dublin Borough’s 25th Community Day and America’s 250th with a fun-filled day of food and drinks, live music, activities and community connection.

June 7: The Declaration of Independence Discussion in Bristol

Join teacher and author Bill Pezza for a discussion about the Declaration of Independence. Light refreshments are to be served. Cost is $5 for adults and free for students.

June 13: Raise a Glass beer history event in Perkasie

Discover the role beer played in colonial life and the American Revolution at “Raise a Glass: Brewing Beer and the Road to Revolution” featuring biochemist, beer enthusiast, and history buff Dr. Jessica Zinskie, a period beer tasting from Aristaeus Craft Brewery, beer garden, food vendors, live music, exhibits and more.

  • When: June 13 from 6–9 p.m.
  • Where: Pearl S. Buck House, 520 Dublin Road, Perkasie.

June 14: Juneteenth Witness Reenactment in Doylestown

Join third-generation Doylestown resident Doreen Stratton as she presents a reenactment of an Arugbo, an enslaved young woman who witnesses Juneteenth when it arrives in Galveston, Texas in June 1865.  

June 14: Living History Theater at Pennsbury Manor

Pennsbury Manor is hosting a living history presentation of the Germantown Protest, reenacting a historic Quaker meeting as slave owners and early abolitionists share their views on the institution of slavery in Pennsylvania.

June 28: Bluegrass PA 250 Celebration in Doylestown

Enjoy live bluegrass music in The TileWorks courtyard featuring The Jason Carter Band, Shane McGeehan and The Bushwick Mountain Boys, and Full Steam. Food trucks are to be on-site, and craft beer, cider and water are to be available for purchase. Tickets are available for purchase online.

July 3–5: America Celebrates 250 in New Hope and Lambertville

Members of America Celebrates, a New Hope-based nonprofit, are set to host a three-day celebration featuring a fireworks and drone show, educational discussions, reenactments, live music and entertainment, pub crawl, parade, dragon boat race and more.

July 4: Tri-Municipal 4th of July Parade in New Britain and Chalfont

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday at the annual Tri-Municipal 4th of July Parade, which is to begin at the Town Center in New Britain Borough along Butler Avenue and conclude at North Branch Park in Chalfont.

July 4: Fonthill Castle 4th of July in Doylestown

Hosted on the grounds of Fonthill Castle, the family-friendly annual celebration is set to feature food, games, crafts, entertainment, live music and the decorated children’s bike parade.

July 4: Independence Day Celebration at Washington Crossing Historic Park

Washington Crossing Historic Park is to host an Independence Day celebration featuring a military encampment with living historians, children’s activities, live music, food trucks and fireworks. Tickets are available online.

Aug. 8: Newtown Celebrates America 250

Celebrate America’s 250th birthday and Newtown’s history with a full day of fun and educational events throughout town, including demonstrations, presentations, reenactments, antique firetrucks, a British encampment, military drills for children, kids crafts, a fife and drum band and more.

Ongoing America 250 exhibits, events in Bucks County and Philadelphia

The Doan Gang: Outlaws of the Revolution A major exhibit on display at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown through Dec. 31 explores the history of the Doan Gang, a group of Revolutionary War-era Loyalists who “plotted, schemed, and plundered their way through a divided world in the earliest days of a budding American nation.”

52 Weeks of Firsts Philadelphia’s Historic District is hosting a year of free citywide public events through Dec. 26, celebrating the groundbreaking ideas, inventions and milestones that began in Philadelphia.

Tile Mosaic Exhibitions The TileWorks of Bucks County in Doylestown is presenting a series of historic Mercer mosaics through Dec. 31 featuring re-issues from the tile floor at the Pennsylvania State Capitol building, that include mosaics illustrating Pennsylvania history through scenes, native artifacts, indigenous flora and fauna, and colonial crafts and industries.

Gather Place America 250th Gallery Explore the stories of American resilience at Gather Place Museum in Yardley through Oct. 31 with a rotating exhibit featuring America 250-themed exhibits spotlighting African American history, women’s history, Quaker heritage and Underground Railroad connections. Special programs are to be held throughout the year, including living history reenactments, lectures, interactive experiences, workshops and local history tours.

The Declaration’s Journey The Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia is to host a multimedia exhibition through Jan. 3, 2027, highlighting the history and global impact of the Declaration of Independence from 1776 to the present day.

250th Anniversary Walking Tour of New Hope Explore 250 years of New Hope history through a guided walking tour offered every first and third Saturday through Oct. 17.

Freedom Dreams On display at The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia through Aug. 9, Freedom Dreams features works by Arthur Jafa, David Hartt, Garrett Bradley, Ja’Tovia Gary and Tourmaline to highlight “the fluid boundary between past, present, and future and encourages viewers to reflect on how Americans of color have shaped identities and created spaces of resistance, joy, and resilience in the face of systemic oppression.”

Radical Americana at Andalusia Through a partnership with Radical Americana, an exhibit is to be on display at Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum through Nov. 13 highlighting the work of contemporary artists, Sophie Glenn and Jody Graff.

Sky Hopinka: Red Metal Dust A new free installation at The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia on display through Jan. 18 features 11 new works by Sky Hopinka whose art centers around personal perspectives of Indigenous homelands and landscapes.

Revolutionary Family at Andalusia A special exhibition is to be on display at Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum through Nov. 13 will explore the influential roles that Biddle family members played during the Revolution

We Will Not Hide: Hidden Histories, Collective Voices and Creative Futures Taller Puertorriqueño is to host a yearlong series through February offering critical, celebratory, and reflective perspectives from Puerto Rican and Afro-Latine communities.

Doylestown Celebrates USA 250: A series of events celebrating the past is to be hosted by members of the Doylestown Historical Society throughout the year, including town crier reenactments, meet and greet lectures, guided tours, storytelling, children’s storytimes and educational programs.

The Crossing: Picturing the American Revolution: The crossing of the Delaware River is to be the focus of an upcoming exhibit at The Michener Art Museum in Doylestown on display June 27 through Jan. 10.
